Rio Hondo College women's basketball standout Candace Black has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at nearby Westcliff University in Irvine.

Black, a sophomore guard out of Diamond Bar High School, was named a second-team All-South Coast Conference selection following the 2019-20 season after averaging 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.

"We were very fortunate to have Candace in our program," said Rio Hondo College women's basketball head coach Rene Herrera. "She was one of our top players the last two years earning all-conference honors both seasons for us. Candace played a key role with both our offense and defense strategies throughout both years."

Black had her finest game of the year when she scored a career-high 26 points in a Rio Hondo win over East Los Angeles College.

"Candace is a true competitor always trying to find ways to get better and compete to be the best player possible," said Herrera. "She will be hard to replace and will be dearly missed."

Westcliff University will compete at the NAIA level for the first time during the upcoming 2020-21 season as a member of the California Pacific Conference. The Warriors are led by head coach Kyle Rouse.
