Women’s Basketball: Lee captures CCCWBCA All-State honors

Following the close of another standout season, Rio Hondo College sophomore Amanda Lee was named third-team All-State by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA).

Lee, originally out of Gabrielino High School, closed out her two-year Rio Hondo career by twice earning first-team All-South Coast Conference accolades. She closed out the regular season leading the Roadrunners in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Lee also averaged 4.8 assists and 3.5 steals to also lead her squad. Her assists ranked third in the South Coast Conference while her steals were fourth.

"Amanda is a true competitor that made a name for herself as one of the top guards in the state," said Rio Hondo women's basketball head coach Rene Herrera. "She will be hard to replace and will also be dearly missed."

Lee scored a season-high 26 points in a win over College of the Canyons. In a victory over Allan Hancock College, Lee nearly had a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Lee played a key role in the turn around of the Roadrunner program. During her two seasons, she helped lead Rio Hondo to a pair of Southern California Regional Playoff appearances and a 20-win season this past winter (2019-20).

"Amanda played an integral role in putting our program on the map," said Herrera. "Amanda will leave Rio Hondo as one of the top leading scorers in school history with 894 points as well as one of the top assist players in school history with 258 assists."

Lee also excelled in the classroom. She was named an Academic All-State selection by the CCCWBCA with a 3.76 grade point average.
