A trio of sophomore standouts from Rio Hondo College women's basketball program are headed to the University of La Verne after wrapping up the 2017-18 season. Maggie Lamas, Destinee Garr, and Emily Mercedes all signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers with coaches, family, and friends in attendance.

Lamas was a first-team All-South Coast Conference North Division selection for first-year head coach Rene Herrera this past winter. She led Rio Hondo in scoring at 15.7 points per game. Her 5.7 rebounds per game average also ranked third on the squad.

Garr earned second-team all-conference honors and led the Roadrunners with 8.8 rebounds per game to go with 6.4 PPG. Mercedes also put up solid numbers this past season, as she averaged 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

La Verne competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Leopards are led by second-year head coach Jason Pruitt.
