Women’s Basketball: Lamas 31 points not enough in Rio Hondo loss at PCC

Rio Hondo College sophomore Maggie Lamas scored 30+ points for the third time this season, as she totaled 31 points in the Roadrunners' 73-59 loss at Pasadena City College on Wednesday night.

The South Coast Conference North Division defeat dropped Rio Hondo to 4-19 overall and 0-5 in SCC North play.

Pasadena jumped out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter and never allowed the Roadrunners to get back in the game. Rio Hondo was down 35-20 at halftime.

Lamas scored all of Rio Hondo's 11 points in the first quarter on her way to 31. She came up just two points shy of her career high of 33 points that she scored against College of the Desert on Dec. 8.

She added seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Emily Mercedes posted a double-double for the Roadrunners in the loss, scoring 16 points to go along with a team-best 10 rebounds. Destinee Garr also chipped in with 10 boards.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Jan. 2) when the Roadrunners travel to LA Trade-Tech College for a 5 p.m. SCC North game.
