Women's Basketball: Rio Hondo can't keep up with No. 2 Mt. SAC

Rio Hondo College sophomore Aliyah Montiel scored a game-high 20 points while Marisa DeLeon added 12 points in an 81-51 South Coast Conference North Division loss to No. 2 state-ranked Mt. San Antonio College on Friday night in Whittier.

The Roadrunners' losing streak has now reached 15 games with two left on the schedule. But they will be tough ones at playoff-contenders and state-ranked No. 17 Pasadena City College (Feb. 15) and No. 12 L.A. Trade Tech College (Feb. 17).

On Friday, the Roadrunners (4-21, 0-8 SCC) played well in the first quarter and actually led 10-8 at the 5:29 mark after a three-pointer by Montiel. But Mt. SAC (26-2, 8-1 SCC) outscored Rio Hondo 14-4 to close out the quarter and used a 21-8 second to go ahead 43-22 at halftime.

Montiel added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in her final home game at Rio Hondo. DeLeon nearly had a double-double with eight rebounds while Racquel Romero had a good game with seven points, four rebounds, and four steals.
