Women's Basketball: Roadrunners fall in OT to Antelope Valley

Rio Hondo College suffered a pair of losses, including a 51-46 setback to Antelope Valley College in overtime on Wednesday, to close out the Ventura College-Optimist Club Holiday Classic. That game was preceded by a tough loss to host Ventura on Tuesday.

Rio Hondo is now 4-12 overall with one non-conference game left on the schedule. The Roadrunners will host Santa Monica College on Jan. 13 before opening South Coast Conference North Division play on Jan. 18 against Chaffey College at 7 p.m.

Antelope Valley 51, Rio Hondo 46 (OT)
The Roadrunners led 20-9 at halftime  and held a 10-point advantage (37-27) going into the fourth quarter. But Antelope Valley outscored Rio Hondo 16-6 in the fourth to force overtime before handing the Roadrunners the tough loss.

Racquel Romero and Joselyn Santillan both scored 11 points to lead Rio Hondo. Destinee Garr grabbed a game-high 11 boards while Aliyah Montiel added eight points.

Ventura 88, Rio Hondo 34
Rio Hondo couldn't keep up with No. 15 state-ranked Ventura as the host Pirates handed the Roadrunners the lopsided defeat. Ventura opened on a 22-0 run and never was threatened.

Montiel accounted for nearly half of the Roadrunners' scoring as she posted 16 points. Garr grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Rio Hondo while Romero added eight points.
