Women's Basketball: Roadrunners drop two at West Hills Tournament

The Rio Hondo College women's basketball team traveled north to the West Hills College Tournament in Lemoore over the weekend and came home with a pair of tough losses. The Roadrunners opened play on Friday with a 75-51 loss to No. 11 state-ranked Fresno City College and then fell 60-46 to Sacramento City College on Saturday to drop out of the tourney.

Sophomore Joselyn Santillan totaled 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Roadrunners over the two-game stretch.

The losses dropped Rio Hondo to 4-9 overall. The Roadrunners will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Wednesday (Dec. 21) when they host Riverside City College in a 6 p.m. non-conference game.

Rio Hondo trailed No. 11 state-ranked Fresno City 26-14 after the first quarter and couldn't really get much going offensively. The Roadrunners made just 1 of 8 three-point attempts and shot 39 percent from the field for the game.

Sacramento City 60, Rio Hondo 46
Rio Hondo got off to another dismal start by scoring just six points in the first quarter and went into halftime down 37-15 to Sacramento City. The Roadrunners went on to outscore SCC 31-23 over the final two quarters but the deficit was too big to overcome.

Romero had another solid game with seven points, seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Santillan and freshman Victoria Nieves also chipped in with seven points each.
