Sophomore Ashley Rendon had game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds to help lead the Rio Hondo College women's basketball team to a 67-57 Foothill Conference win over visiting Barstow College on Wednesday in Whittier. With the victory, the Roadrunners improved to 4-2 in conference play and 10-12 overall.
Rendon was on fire early as she scored 10 of Rio Hondo's first 12 points. With the score tied 2-2, Rio Hondo put together a 10-0 run. From that point, the Roadrunners would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest. Rio Hondo led 17-8 after the first quarter and took a 35-24 advantage into halftime.
Sophomore Danna Robles also had a big night for the Roadrunners with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Justine Manjarrez sank three 3-pointers on her way to 13 points while sophomore Julissa Vargas chipped in with six rebounds, three assists, and four points.
Ana Velazquez led Barstow (13-11, 3-3 FC) with 18 points.
Rio Hondo returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 3 p.m. when the Roadrunners host Chaffey College in a Foothill Conference game.
