Rio Hondo drops 87-77 Foothill Conferene game at San Bernardino Valley

Rio Hondo College couldn't overcome a 23-11 first-quarter deficit and lost 87-77 at San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday. The Foothill Conference defeat dropped the Roadrunners to 10-12 overall and 3-2 in conference play while first-place San Bernardino Valley improved to 5-0 and 13-6 overall.

Rio Hondo trailed 46-33 at halftime and couldn't get back in the contest.

After making a season-high 14 three-pointers in their last contest, the Roadrunners nailed nine shots from downtown tonight vs. the Wolverines. Sophomores Julissa Vargas and Justine Manjarrez both made four each. Vargas led Rio Hondo with 22 points and eight assists while Manjarrez had 20 points.

Sophomore Ashley Rendon posted a double-double with a game high 14 rebounds to go with 10 points and sophomore Danna Robles added 17 points and five rebounds.

Rio Hondo returns to action next Wednesday (Feb. 3) when it hosts Barstow College in a 7 p.m. Foothill Conference game. The doubleheader with the men's team will also be played as part of Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Night.
