Softball: Roadrunners can’t snap streak, fall 11-1 to East LA

Rio Hondo College third baseman Arianna Amezcua went 2 for 2 and scored a run to lead the Roadrunners in an 11-1 South Coast Conference loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday.

Amezcua was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise tough loss. With the Roadrunners trailing 4-0, she led off the bottom of the fourth with a double and two batters later came in to score Rio Hondo's lone run thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Madeline Peralta.

East Los Angeles blew the game open with a six-run, sixth-inning to invoke the eight-run mercy rule.

Peralta took the loss for the Roadrunners, allowing five earned runs and 10 hits over the six-inning effort. She struck out three and walked two.

Rio Hondo totaled five hits in the contest. Katherine Arroyo, Kimberly Rosas, and Miranda Fernandez all added singles.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 2-14-1 overall and 0-9 in SCC play. The Roadrunners will look to snap their 10-game losing streak on Thursday (Mar. 7) when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in a 2 p.m. SCC game.
