Softball: Roadrunners walk off with 7-6 win over LA Mission

Jessica Salazar smacked a two-out, RBI single to score Maria Enriquez with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners defeated visiting Los Angeles Mission College by a final score of 7-6 on Friday.

The non-conference victory brought an end to Rio Hondo's 10-game losing streak and improved the Roadrunners' overall record to 5-26-1.

Rio Hondo held a commanding 6-2 advantage after six innings and needed just three ousts to secure the win. But Mission rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie up the ball game.

In the bottom of the frame, the Roadrunners were aggressive on the bases and had a pair of runners thrown out at home plate trying to score the game-winning run. But after a two-out Mission error prolonged the contest, Salazar was able to connect for a base hit to bring home Enriquez for the walk-off winner.

The Roadrunners totaled a season-high 15 hits in the game and got two hits each from Samantha Davis (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Sarah Hauffen-Salgado (2-for-3), Taylor Alcala (2-for-4, triple), Enriquez (2-for-4), 2 runs, 1 RBI), Taylor Rodriguez (2-for-3, 1 RBI), and Salazar (2-for-4, 2 RBI).

Alize Lopez pitched well in the start. She went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) and three hits. Alcala was credited with the win in relief.

The Roadrunners return to the diamond on Monday (April 10) when they travel to Santa Ana College for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
