Softball: Roadrunners drop non-conference game at Moorpark

Sophomore pitcher Brenae Martinez struck out five and added a pair of hits on her but it wasn't enough as the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss at Moorpark College on Friday.

Martinez went the distance in the loss, allowing just one earned run and seven hits. Moorpark took advantage of a pair of Rio Hondo errors in the bottom of the first inning to score two runs.

From the batter's box, Martinez smacked a RBI single to score Tiana Rodriguez for Rio Hondo's lone run in the fifth. But with the score 2-1, Moorpark added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the win.

Rodriguez, Martinez, and Alicia Olivas all had two hits to lead the Roadrunners at the plate.

Rio Hondo, now 10-27 overall, returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 22) when the Roadrunners travel to Orange Coast College for an 11 a.m. non-conference game.
