Rio Hondo College freshman Marissa Macias lined a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th inning to help lift the Roadrunners to a 5-4 walk-off victory over the visiting East Los Angeles College Huskies on Thursday. The South Coast Conference North Division win snapped Rio Hondo's 10-game losing streak.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Macias' fielder's choice grounder allowed Paige Aguilar to score the tying run.

East Los Angeles nearly pulled ahead in the seventh, but Rio Hondo pitcher Brenae Martinez got East LA's Griselda Vasquez to pop up with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Both teams couldn't really get much going until the 10th. Samantha Alvarado's RBI single gave the Huskies a 4-3 lead before the Roadrunners staged their come back. Serina Castrellon led off the bottom of the 10th with a double before Desiree Rhodes walked. Karina Gomez followed by reaching base on a fielder's choice that resulted in no outs. With the bases loaded, Macias singled to bring home Castrellon and Rhodes for the tying and game-winning runs.

Castrellon paced the Roadrunners' offense, going 3 for 5 while Gomez collected a pair of hits. In the circle, Martinez earned the complete-game victory after allowing four runs (three earned) and 12 hits over 10 innings. The returning All-State pitcher struck out four and walked two.

Rio Hondo, now 8-22 overall and 1-6 in SCC play, returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 8) to host Southwestern College in a non-conference doubleheader.
