Men's Water Polo: Rio Hondo gets No. 4 seed for SCC Championships

Thanks to a 3-3 record in South Coast Conference play, the Rio Hondo College men's water polo team has earned the No. 4 seed for this week's SCC Championship tournament. The newly-formatted two-day event runs Friday-Saturday (Nov. 4-5) and is being held at Pasadena City College.

The No. 4 Roadrunners will be the designated home team in Friday's opening-round game scheduled for 10:15 a.m. against No. 5 Chaffey College. A win in that contest would advance Rio Hondo to a semifinal matchup later in the day at 2:45 p.m. against top-seeded Long Beach City College (18-4, 6-0 SCC).

Saturday's championship final is scheduled for 2 p.m. with teams looking to advance to next week's Southern California Regional Championship tournament.

Rio Hondo takes a 13-15 overall record into Friday's contest but have greatly turned things around. The Roadrunners had a brutal start to the 2016 season as they lost their first 11 consecutive games. But since that point, Rio Hondo has been one of the hottest teams in the state, winning 13 of its last 17 contests.

Chaffey finished fifth in the regular-season SCC standings at 2-4 and is also 13-15 overall.
