Men’s Soccer: Rio Hondo extends conference lead with 4-1 win over LA City

WHITTIER – Ulises Depaz scored twice while Robert Rodriguez had a goal and 2 assists to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 4-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles City College on Wednesday.

With the win, the Roadrunners remain on top of the South Coast Conference North Division standings at 4-1. Rio Hondo is unbeaten in 6 of its last 7 games and currently holds a 7-6-2 overall record.

Depaz opened the scoring in Wednesday's contest with his goal off the assist from Rodriguez in the 18th minute. Ronaldo Madrigal got in on the action with his goal in the 45th minute, just moments before the halftime whistle, to make it a 2-0 Rio Hondo lead at the break.

Depaz and Rodriguez connected again in the 67th minute for a goal before LA City finally got on the board in the 75th thanks to a goal by Danile Lopez Rosas.

Rodriguez closed it out with his goal off a free kick in the 90th minute.

Diego Bastias totaled 6 saves in goal for the Roadrunners' victory.

The Roadrunners will look to extend their two-match winning streak on Friday (Oct. 20) when they host Long Beach City College in a 4 p.m. SCC interdivision game.
