NORCO – Rio Hondo College got off to a fast start in its 2023 season opener but had to end up settling for a 2-2 draw at Norco College on Friday.

The Roadrunners opened up the contest by jumping out to a two-goal lead. Pablo Sandoval knocked in the first Rio Hondo goal of the season, scoring unassisted in the 24^th minute to put the Roadrunners up 1-0 at halftime.

Jesus Ovalle made it a 2-0 advantage after his goal in the 47^th minute off the assist from Ariel Solano.

The Roadrunners appeared to be on their way to victory before Norco's Dominic Kienzle scored a pair of unanswered goals in the 64^th and 79^th minutes to even up the score.

Diego Bastias totaled two saves in goal for Rio Hondo.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Aug. 29) when they travel to Oxnard College for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
