Men’s Soccer: Roadrunners roll to 5-3 win over Norco in season opener

WHITTIER – The 2022 Rio Hondo College men's soccer season got off to an impressive start as the Roadrunners cruised to a 5-3 victory over visiting Norco College on Friday in both teams' season opener.

Freshman Charlie Rosales and sophomore Ramiro Piza both scored twice to lead the Rio Hondo rout. With the score tied 1-1, Rosales netted consecutive goals to close out the first half and sent the Roadrunners into the break with a 3-1 advantage.

Sophomore Maximilian De Anda scored in the 78th minute and Piza knocked in a penalty-kick goal in the 80th to close out the Roadrunners' scoring. Piza's first-half goal gave Rio Hondo an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Arturo Bustamante Jr totaled 11 saves in a strong opening-day effort.

Rio Hondo (1-0) will look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday (Aug. 30) when the Roadrunners host San Bernardino Valley College in their second contest of the season.
