The No. 12 state-ranked Rio Hondo College men's soccer team wrapped up the 2021 season with a second-place finish in the South Coast Conference North Division following its 3-1 loss to No. 3 Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday.

The Roadrunners compiled a 5-2-2 record in SCC play, finishing behind Mt. SAC at 7-1-1 in the final standings. With 17 total points (win = 3 points, tie = 1, loss = 0), Rio Hondo finished in a tie with Long Beach City College (5-2-2) for the No. 4 seed for the upcoming South Coast Conference Championship tournament. Rio Hondo was awarded the No. 4 seed with the tie-breaker procedure and will host No. 5 Long Beach in a first-round game on Friday (Nov. 5) at 4 p.m. in Whittier.

The winner of that contest would advance to a semifinal game at No. 1 seed Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday, Nov. 9 while the loser would play in the fifth-place game. The tourney championship final is set for No. 12 at El Camino College.

The tournament champion receives the South Coast Conference's automatic bid into the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Rio Hondo will look to return to the regional playoffs after missing out in 2019. Prior to that season, the Roadrunners had made five consecutive appearances in the SoCal Regionals.
