Men’s Soccer: Rio Hondo closes San Diego trip with 1-0 loss

The Rio Hondo College men's soccer team wrapped up a two-day road trip down to San Diego with a narrow 1-0 loss at MiraCosta College on Saturday. The setback came after a 4-1 win at San Diego City College on Friday.

After the four-goal explosion just a day before, the Roadrunners were forced to play a defensive battle. Rio Hondo and MiraCosta were held scoreless all the way until the 75th minute when the Spartans finally broke through. Copper Higgins scored unassisted for the game's lone goal.

Erik Avalos played well in goal for Rio Hondo, allowing just the one shot in net over the 90-minute effort.

Rio Hondo, 1-1-1 overall, returns to action next weekend when the Roadrunners head north to the Central Valley for a pair of games. The Roadrunners play at Clovis Community College on Friday (Sep. 6) at 4 p.m. and wrap up the trip with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday (Sep. 7) at Fresno City College.
