Men’s Soccer: Roadrunners edge El Camino 1-0

Andrew Salazar's goal in the 59th minute proved to be the game-winner as Rio Hondo College defeated El Camino College by a final score of 1-0 in a South Coast Conference interdivision game in Torrance on Tuesday.

With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 9-1-5 overall while El Camino dropped to 5-4-4.

The physical contest saw more fouls that shots. Both teams totaled 18 fouls each and earned three yellow cards each as well. The match was evenly contested on offense as both teams also totaled nine shots each.

Salazar's came up big with his lone shot of the match. He took a pass from Jonathan Ortiz and beat El Camino goalkeeper Brandon Cardenas with his shot to the lower left corner of the net.

Jesus Rendon had three saves in goal for the Roadrunners to help post the squad's fifth shutout of the season.

Rio Hondo is unbeaten over its last six matches and looks to keep the momentum going on Friday (Oct. 19) when the Roadrunners host Long Beach City College in a 6 p.m. SCC crossover game.
