Men’ Soccer: Rio Hondo edged 1-0 at East LA in conference opener

The No. 7 nationally-ranked Rio Hondo College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, a narrow 1-0 defeat at East Los Angeles College on Tuesday in both teams' South Coast Conference opener.

The setback dropped the Roadrunners to 6-1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Rio Hondo had climbed from No. 12 to the No. 7 spot in this week's United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III national rankings before the loss.

On Tuesday, an unassisted goal by the Huskies' Paulo Macedo Nahashique in the 20th minute proved to be the game-winner. Rio Hondo was held scoreless for just the second time this season.

The Roadrunners will look to bounce back on Friday (Sep. 28) when they host Mt. San Antonio College in a 6 p.m. SCC match.
