Men’s Soccer: Rio Hondo gets No. 8 seed, hosts Santa Monica in SoCal Regionals

2017 CCCAA/SOCAL REGIONAL BRACKET

The Rio Hondo College Men's Soccer team has been named the No. 8 seed for the 2017 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host the No. 9 Santa Monica College Corsairs in an opening-round game on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 4 p.m.

The Rio Hondo College Soccer Complex will host a playoff doubleheader as the No. 3-seeded women's soccer team will take on either No. 14 Fullerton or No. 19 Ventura following the men's contest at 7 p.m.

Rio Hondo enters the postseason with an 11-5-6 overall record and recently finished in third place in the South Coast Conference North Division with a 4-3-1 mark. The Roadrunners will be making their sixth playoff appearance since 2010.

Santa Monica is 13-3-5 overall heading into the playoffs and was second in the Western State Conference North Division at 5-2-3.

Saturday's playoff game will mark the second meeting of the season between the two squads. On Sept. 22, Jose Maderos' goal in the 10th minute proved to be the game winner for the Roadrunners in a hard-fought 1-0 non-conference battle in Whittier. The victory was part of an early-season nine-game unbeaten streak for the Roadrunners.

The winner of the opening-round game will advance to face No. 1 seed-Cerritos College (16-0-5) on Tuesday (Nov. 21). Three wins are needed to advance to the CCCAA Soccer State Championship on Dec. 1 & 3 at American River College in Sacramento.
