Men’s Soccer: Rio Hondo snaps winless streak with win over Mt. SAC

Rio Hondo College sophomore Moses Gutierrez scored twice to help knock off No. 6 nationally-ranked Mt. San Antonio College for the second time this season as the Roadrunners defeated the Mounties 2-0 on Friday in Walnut.

Mt. SAC (15-3-2) has lost just three games this season, two of them have come from the Roadrunners.

The South Coast Conference North Division victory snapped Rio Hondo's five-game winless streak and improved the Roadrunners to 10-5-5 overall and 3-3-1 in division play.

Gutierrez set the tone early as he broke free for a goal in the fourth minute off the assist from Joseph Fuentes. The score remained 1-0 all the way until the 77th minute when Gutierrez and Fuentes connected again for the insurance goal that sealed the Rio Hondo victory.

Jose Paredes totaled five saves in goal for the Roadrunners to earn Rio Hondo's sixth shutout of the season.

The Roadrunners continue their push towards the postseason and have just two games remaining on the regular-season schedule. They return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 7) at Long Beach City College for a SCC interdivision game and close out the regular-season with a SCC North Division contest next Friday (Nov. 10) against Pasadena City College.
