Men's Soccer: Rio Hondo opens SCC play with 2-1 win at Chaffey

Moses Gutierrez' knocked in the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 2-1 win over visiting Chaffey College on Tuesday in both teams' South Coast Conference North Division opener.

The Roadrunners continued their impressive start to the season as they have won four straight and extended their unbeaten streak to eight games to improve to 7-1-2 overall.

After a scoreless opening half, Rio Hondo's Fernando Guerrero finally broke up deadlock with his goal in the 50th minute off the assist from Gutierrez.

Chaffey responded just moments later with a goal in the 55th by Oscar Casillas-Palom to tie up the contest before Gutierrez beat Panthers' goalkeeper Alex Fonseca just minutes before the final whistle to secure the home win for the Roadrunners.

Jose Paredes' four-game shutout streak finally came to an end. But he totaled seven saves in goal for Rio Hondo to pick up the win.

The Roadrunners return to SCC North play on Friday (Sept. 29) when they travel to East Los Angeles College for a 2 p.m. game.
