Men’s Basketball: McElroy scores season-high 27 points in loss to ELAC

Elijah McElroy scored a season-high 27 points but Rio Hondo College couldn't keep up with No. 5 state-ranked East Los Angeles College and lost by a final score of 84-74 in a South Coast Conference North Division game on Friday in Whittier.

The Roadrunners led 47-41 at halftime but once again, a lack of bench slowed Rio Hondo towards the end of the contest. East Los Angeles (19-3, 4-0 SCC) outscored Rio Hondo 43-27 over the final 20 minutes to hand the Roadrunners the loss.

Rio Hondo nailed 10 three-pointers in the contest, including four by McElroy. Bryant Howing posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Jonathan Martinez also scored 15 points and dished out 4 assists.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 3-19 overall and 0-4 in SCC North Division play. The Roadrunners are still in search of their first win at home this season.

Rio Hondo will look to snap its losing streak on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 5 p.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Mt. San Antonio College for a SCC North game.
