Men’s Basketball: Trio of double-doubles not enough in loss at LASC

Uziel Felix, Bryant Howing, and Elijah McElroy all posted double-doubles but the Rio Hondo College couldn't keep up with Los Angeles Southwest College and suffered a 74-69 loss in its final South Coast Conference interdivision game on Friday night.

LA Southwest held a 39-33 advantage at halftime. Rio Hondo outscored the Cougars 36-35 in the second, but the lead was too much to overcome.

LA Southwest used a barrage of three-pointers to down the Roadrunners. The Cougars made 11 of 23 shots from downtown while Rio Hondo connected on 7 of its 17 three-point attempts.

With just six players suiting up for Rio Hondo, the Roadrunners outrebounded LA Southwest by a 48-46 margin. The Roadrunners' ball control was also excellent as they committed just 7 turnovers.

Felix posted 17 points and 10 rebounds, Howing had 10 points and 13 rebounds, and McElroy totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds for their double-doubles. McElroy also added a game-high 7 assists.

Jonathan Martinez also had a good game with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Rio Hondo, now 3-15 overall, opens South Coast Conference North Division play on Wednesday (Jan. 23) when the Roadrunners host Pasadena City College in a 5 p.m. game.
