Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners open tourney with win over Moorpark

Uziel Felix scored a game-high 23 points while Bryant Howing and Jonathan Martinez both added 17 points each to help lead the Rio Hondo College men's basketball team to an 84-69 win over Moorpark College on Wednesday in an opening-round game of the Cypress College Don Johnson Classic.

The victory stopped a two-game Rio Hondo slide and improved the Roadrunners to 3-8 overall.

Rio Hondo trailed early in the contest and was down 14-11 at the 10:29 mark in the first. But the Roadrunners outscored Moorpark by a 20-5 margin over the remainder of the half to take a commanding 31-19 advantage into the break.

Felix sparked the first-half surge, scoring 11 of his 23 points over the first 20 minutes. He added 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists to his impressive night.

Howing scored 16 of his 17 points in the second half while grabbing a team-best 8 rebounds to go with 4 assists and 3 steals. Martinez also had a good all-around game, posting 6 rebounds and 4 assists with his 17-point outburst.

Rio Hondo returns to tournament play at Cypress on Friday (Dec. 7) at 5 p.m. when the Roadrunners take on Santa Monica College.
