Men's Basketball: Ohara scores 25 points in loss to Mt. SAC

Rio Hondo College freshman Derek Ohara scored a season-high 25 points but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners fell to visiting Mt. San Antonio College 76-68 on Friday night in Whittier.

Rio Hondo is still winless in South Coast Conference North Division play, falling to 0-8 and 8-18 overall.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 13-3 lead early and was up 34-31 with 2:29 to play in the first after an Ohara three-pointer. But Mt. SAC (16-9, 6-2 SCC) outscored Rio Hondo 10-5 over the final two minutes and opened the second half with a 7-2 run to take the lead for good.

Ohara shot 5 for 6 on three-pointers on his way to 25 points. Trevon Welch added 12 points and nine rebounds while Angelo Sandoval had nine points and five assists. Damian Salcedo nearly had a double-double with eight points and eight assists.

Rio Hondo has just two games left on the schedule and is next at Pasadena City College on Wednesday (Feb. 15) for a 5 p.m. SCC North Division game.
