Men's Basketball: Rio Hondo gets 68-64 tournament win over MiraCosta

Freshman DeShaun Carr led Rio Hondo College with 24 points as the Roadrunners downed the MiraCosta College Spartans 68-64 in an opening-day game at the El Camino College Tournament of Champions in Torrance on Thursday.

The two squads met for the second time in week after the Spartans ruined the Roadrunners' home opener last Thursday with an 81-70. But in the latest bout, Rio Hondo jumped ahead 40-28 at the break before holding on for the win.

After averaging just six shots over his first four games, Carr let it fly on Thursday making 8 of 20 from the field. He also added six rebounds, an assist, and one steal.

Sophomore Angelo Sandoval posted his first double-double of the season, scoring 10 points to go with 10 rebounds. Freshman Derek Ohara added 12 points while sophomore Myles Jackson chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.

Rio Hondo, now 3-2 overall, returns to El Camino tournament play on Friday (Nov. 18) at 3 p.m. to face Moorpark College.
