Roadrunners close season with rout of Compton; Fernandez named All-SCC

COMPTON – Rio Hondo College wrapped up the 2025 season in a big way, cruising to a 23-3 rout at Compton College on Friday.
The Roadrunners took the series, winning two of three games against the Tartars. Rio Hondo won the opener on Tuesday 7-2 but dropped Game 2 on Thursday 4-2.
Rio Hondo compiled a season-high 21 hits in Friday's finale while the 23 runs was also the most scored this season.
Izak Fernandez had a huge game at the plate, going 4 for 6 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI while Ryan Duron went 4 for 6 with a home run, double, and 4 RBI. Matt Covarrubias and Anthony Guzman both drove in four runs each and Ray Ramirez had 3 RBI.
Jonny Covarrubias pitched 5 innings of scoreless relief in earning the win. He allowed just 3 hits during the outing.
Rio Hondo closed the season with an 11-29 overall record and finished seventh in a highly-competitive South Coast Conference with a 6-18 mark.
ALL-SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE POSTSEASON AWARDS
Following the close of the regular season, Rio Hondo sophomore catcher Izaak Fernandez was named first-team All-South Coast Conference.
In 24 South Coast Conference games, Fernandez compiled a .398 batting average with 8 home runs and 24 RBI.
