Baseball: Roadrunners wrap up 2018 season with losses to PCC

A tough season for the Rio Hondo College baseball team came to an end on Friday as the Roadrunners suffered back-to-back losses to Pasadena City College to close out a three-game South Coast Conference series. PCC rallied late to beat Rio Hondo 6-5 on Friday in Pasadena a day after Rio Hondo fell 5-3 to the Lancers in Whittier.

Rio Hondo ended the season with a 13-25 overall record and finished fifth in the SCC North Division standings at 6-16.

Pasadena 6, Rio Hondo 5
Nick Ybarra went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 2 RBI to lead the Roadrunners at the plate in Friday's season finale.

His RBI double in the top of the seventh drove in Tony Rosario to give Rio Hondo a narrow 3-2 lead. But PCC put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth to go ahead 6-3.

The Roadrunners didn't go down easy in the ninth. Ybarra smacked another RBI double to bring home Marcos Rivas and Steven Mendoza scored Ybarra with a RBI single. Rio Hondo had the bases loaded with two outs in the inning, but PCC's Frank Gonzalez got Lucas Rocha to ground out to end the threat and ball game.

Mendoza went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI while Tony Rosario also had two hits.

Jake Gaudet pitched well despite taking the loss. He allowed four runs, just one earned, and five hits over 6 ⅓ innings.

Pasadena 5, Rio Hondo 3
The Lancers rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to erase a 3-2 Rio Hondo lead and beat the Roadrunners on Thursday in Whittier.

Lucas Rocha drove in a pair of runs while Steven Mendoza had two hits for the Roadrunners.

Isaiah Ramos was excellent in the start for Rio Hondo as he allowed two runs and five hits over seven innings.
