Baseball: Roadrunners cruise to 9-4 win over Bakersfield

Taking a break from South Coast Conference play, the Rio Hondo College baseball team picked up a 9-4 win over visiting Bakersfield College on Saturday in Whittier. The non-conference victory improved the Roadrunners to 10-13 overall.

Rio Hondo held Bakersfield scoreless for the first eight innings, starting off with four innings from Jake Gaudet. He struck out four and walked just one while Edmundo Fernandez earned the victory after tossing a pair of perfect innings. Andy Garcia kept it going in the seventh and James Wright held the Renegades off the board in the eighth before surrendering four runs in the ninth.

The Roadrunners put the game out of reach early as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. They put together a three-run rally in the sixth and added two final runs in the seventh.

Marcos Rivas, Steven Mendoza, and Tony Rosario all drove in two runs each while Josh Sabajan led Rio Hondo at the plate going 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (March 27) when they host LA Valley College in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
