Baseball: Rio Hondo drops two-game SCC series to El Camino

Rio Hondo College couldn't get much going offensively and suffered consecutive losses to El Camino College in a two-game South Coast Conference series. On Monday, the Roadrunners fell 10-1 to the Warriors in Whittier and followed that up on Tuesday with a disappointing 13-0 loss on the road in Torrance.

El Camino wasted little time in the opener and scored three runs in the top of the first and was up 6-0 before Rio Hondo finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Marcos Rivas hit a RBI single that scored Steven Mendoza for the Roadrunners' lone score.

Nicko Cottone took the loss as he allowed six runs and four hits over three innings. He struck out three and walked four. Jake Gaudet and Edmundo Fernandez pitched will in relief and both posted two innings each of scoreless ball.

The Roadrunners took an even harder loss on Tuesday as they totaled just three hits in the contest. El Camino scored four runs in the bottom of the second and blew the game open with a seven-run rally in the fifth.

Marc Salcido, Aiden Gutierrez, and David Campbell had the lone hits for Rio Hondo off ECC starting pitcher Spencer Long.

Andy Garcia was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs (three earned) and six hits over 4 ⅓ innings. He struck out six but walked five.

Rio Hondo fell to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in conference play with the losses. The Roadrunners are back in action on Thursday (March 15) at 2:30 p.m. when they open another two-game SCC series at Long Beach City College.
