Baseball: Rio Hondo swept by LA Harbor in SCC series

After winning its South Coast Conference opener last week, the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners have struggled, losing their last three games including two vs. Los Angeles Harbor College. On Thursday, Rio Hondo suffered an 8-1 defeat coming off the heels of a 9-4 loss on Tuesday.

Rio Hondo, now 9-7 overall and 1-3 in SCC play, will look to turn things around on Saturday (Mar. 11) at 12 p.m. when the Roadrunners host Long Beach City College to open another two-game conference series.

Game 1: LA Harbor 9, Rio Hondo 4
The Roadrunners led 4-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning before the Seahawks rallied for eight runs to pull out the win. Brady Carlson was impressive in the start, scattering three hits over seven shutout innings.

Rio Hondo outhit the Seahawks by an 11-8 margin but left seven runners on base in the loss. Three Rio Hondo errors also led to five unearned runs.

Randy Buenrostro (3 for 4, 2B), Nick Ybarra (2 for 3, 1 run), and Alex Rodriguez (2 for 4, 1 RBI) led Rio Hondo at the plate.

Game 2: LA Harbor 8, Rio Hondo 1
The Roadrunners couldn't get much going offensively in the loss at LA Harbor on Thursday. Rio Hondo totaled just three hits.

Cesar Sandoval knocked in the Roadrunners lone run with a RBI single that scored Rodriguez in the top of the second. Danny Marquez and R.J. Romo also had hits for Rio Hondo.

Jake Gaudet took the loss, allowing four runs and seven hits over four innings.
