LONG BEACH – Rio Hondo College closed out the 2024 regular season with a pair of South Coast Conference victories at home on Friday. The Roadrunners opened the day with a 5-0 sweep of College of the Desert and followed that up with a narrow 3-2 win over Cerritos College at the Rosie's Dog Beach courts.

With the wins, Rio Hondo wrapped up the regular season with a 14-7 overall record and finished fourth in the final South Coast Conference standings at 5-5.

The Roadrunners did not lose a set in the match vs. Desert but was challenged by the Cerritos in the finale. The Rio Hondo duo of Loren Forster and Herlinda Casanova at No. 3 pulled off a three-set victory (21-18, 19-21, 15-13) over the Falcons, which proved to be the deciding match. Following the close of the matches, Rio Hondo honored its five sophomores: Jaida Zuniga, Maleia Petterez, Jade Fuentes, Daniela Sanchez, and Isabel Villavicencio.

Rio Hondo will now focus on the postseason. Up next is the South Coast Conference Pairs Tournament on April 19-20 at Mt. San Antonio College.
