South Coast Conference cancels traditional fall sports for 2020-2021

Rio Hondo College Acting Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss released the following statement regarding the cancellation of traditional fall sports that were scheduled to be played during the upcoming early spring season:

The South Coast Conference announced this morning that due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, traditional fall sports have been cancelled for 2020-2021. This means that the abbreviated Spring I season proposed for February-April 2021 has been cancelled for the following nine conference-sponsored sports: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's water polo, women's volleyball, and men's and women's basketball.

Rio Hondo College is a member of the South Coast Conference made up of 12 colleges. All 12 presidents of the South Coast Conference Colleges unanimously made this difficult decision out of an abundance of care and safety for our student athletes, coaches and staff.

The presidents of the South Coast Conference are scheduled to meet on January 6, 2021 and February 3, 2021, regarding Spring II sports.
